Wu Jinglian, born in Nanjing on January 24, 1930, tracing his ancestry in Yaoguan Town, Wujin District in Jiangsu Province (today’s Yaoguan Town, Wujin District, Changzhou City), is a famous economist, a researcher of the Development Research Center of the State Council, and a leading figure in economics in China. He joined the Department of Economics of Jinling University (merged into Nanjing University in 1952) in 1950, and was transferred to the Department of Economics of Fudan University in 1952. He is renowned for his outstanding theories in contemporary market economy rooted in China.
