International Economy & Trade

This major studies basic theories and professional courses such as international trade theory, microeconomics, macroeconomics, finance, accounting, statistics, management, international trade practice, foreign trade English correspondence, customs declaration practice, international settlement, international freight forwarding, international financial practice, e-commerce, oral English for foreign trade, international economic cooperation, etc, aiming to cultivate general economic management talents who have profound cultural literacy and good professional ethics, master solid economic and trade professional knowledge, have logical thinking, innovation awareness, collaboration ability and foreign trade business handling ability to analyze foreign trade issues. An international perspective can allow them to engage in foreign trade related work in enterprises, governments and financial institutions, and adapt to social and economic development.

The faculty of international economy and trade is strong with the proportion of doctoral teachers of more than 2/3. Many teachers have overseas learning experience. Four teachers are young and middle-aged academic leaders of the “Blue Project” in Jiangsu Province, and two teachers are the third level training objects of the “333 Project” in Jiangsu Province. Fruitful scientific research results have been achieved in recent three years, like successively presiding over 14 national social science projects, 10 provincial and ministerial projects, 40 municipal and departmental projects, and publishing more than 100 papers in domestic and foreign journals. Students have a high level of comprehensive ability. In the past three years, under the guidance of teachers, students have won 27 awards at or above the provincial level, 45 awards and 15 honors in various competitions held by the school.

 

Finance

The Department of Finance was established in 2012. In accordance with the philosophy of “specialization, practicality and internationalization”, the Department is geared to the talent needs of national, regional and local economic development, and cultivates highly qualified and applied modern financial talents who meet the needs of industry and regional socio-economic construction, systematically master the basic theory, basic knowledge and basic business skills of finance, and have good practical ability, effective communication and coordination ability, innovative spirit and entrepreneurial ability, and international vision. The Department of Finance has developed a high quality complex application-oriented modern financial talents with good practical ability, effective communication and coordination ability, innovative spirit and entrepreneurial ability and international vision.

In terms of faculty conditions, the Department of Finance has a strong faculty. There are 12 full-time faculty members, including 2 professors and 3 associate professors, and 42% of the total number of full-time faculty members have senior titles or above; 12 PhDs (including those who are studying), accounting for 100% of the total number of full-time faculty members; 5 master's degree supervisors, accounting for 41% of the total number of full-time faculty members. In terms of research characteristics, based on the development needs of investment and financing business of enterprises in southern Jiangsu, the Department of Finance has formed the discipline development characteristics of energy and financial services in the local area with the research directions of financial market and SME investment and financing, monetary policy and local economic development, blockchain and financial technology, and has obvious application advantages in the fields of analysis of investment and financing behavior of petrochemical enterprises and risk control of foreign-related investment, corporate finance and investment efficiency. Around the characteristic research direction, the faculty of the Department of Finance has presided over 7 national projects, 4 provincial and ministerial projects, won the first prize of excellent achievements in philosophy and social science in Jiangsu Province, and published more than 30 high-level papers, including more than 10 SSCI-retrieved papers.

In terms of student training, it is the fundamental goal of the major to establish morality and cultivate socialist builders and successors with comprehensive development of morality, intellect, physical fitness and aesthetics. The training of students in the Department of Finance highlights the study of financial theory, quantitative methods and financial software, emphasizes the analysis, research, application ability and financial quality of financial realities and frontier issues, and requires students to be able to use financial professional theory and computer technology to solve relevant problems in the field of finance. In the cultivation system, the Department of Finance adheres to the philosophy of “student-oriented”, focuses on local needs, regional needs and national needs, combines the needs of students’ talent growth, and cultivates top-notch innovative talents, applied composite talents and international talents by classification and type.

 

Financial Engineering

The Department of Financial Engineering was established in 2015, adhering to the spirit of “shouldering responsibility and pursuing excellence” and facing the whole country, by conforming to the integration trend of the Yangtze River Delta, and providing talent support and intellectual support for the development of modern financial industry. The Department aims to cultivate students who can meet the needs of economic and social development, have solid basic theories and knowledge of mathematics, economics, finance, computers, master the application of modern information analysis tools and the principles and operating practices of micro financial business, and can take part in banking, securities, insurance, investment, risk management and other related businesses, with innovative spirit, entrepreneurial awareness and practical ability to adapt to economic and social development.

The Department of Financial Engineering strives to become a first-class specialty that meets the needs of social and economic development with prominent advantages, distinctive characteristics, and strong influence in the region. It has successively set up laboratories for financial asset allocation and management, quantitative investment, commercial bank operation and management, foreign exchange simulation trading, etc., and established long-term and stable cooperation with domestic well-known financial data providers such as Gtafe and Wind. The employment rate of students is close to 100% and they choose to work in large state-owned banks, large securities firms, private equity funds and other institutions. The salary level of graduates is high and the rate of studying abroad for further study and postgraduate entrance examination remains at about 20%.

The Department of Financial Engineering has a high-level faculty, with 9 teachers, including 2 professors, 3 associate professors and 5 lecturers; 3 doctors returned from overseas study and 4 masters supervisors; Among full-time teachers, there are 9 doctors (including 1 on-the-job doctor). Whether the educational background structure, academic background structure, age structure or professional title structure are reasonable. Full time teachers devote themselves into the mainstream research directions of Financial Engineering, such as financial asset pricing, risk management, market micro-structure, quantitative investment, etc. In recent years, teachers in this Department have presided over 6 projects funded by the National Social Science Foundation of China and the National Natural Science Foundation of China, 7 projects funded by the Humanities and Social Sciences Foundation of the Ministry of Education, 7 projects funded by the Social Science Foundation of Jiangsu Province, and more than 20 other municipal and department level projects and horizontal projects.
